Formspring

I was asked this on my formspring (www.formspring.me/charliefer)

"What's the story behind your new artwork?"

It started out as a thing I had with test tubes, kind of always liked them for their form really I just like how repetitive and standardised they are.I was filling them with food colouring and water and finding out what gradients of colour I could make by using a methodical system of adding one drop of food colouring per x amount of water. It was then suggested to me that I could then do something with the liquid rather than just displaying it in a test tube because it needed to move beyond my previous Dulux project idea of standard colours and the process of making the colour. So then I started dropping/dribbling the food colouring and water down different surfaces until I moved onto how to make it more permanent.Through the miracle of PVA glue and water colour paint I had lots of fun painting the inside of my bedroom window for a couple of days and then moved onto a piece of perspex. So now I'm starting to make my big final pieces which are still about gradients of colour but the actual colour mixing is more of a random process (I add however much colour I want at a time) but still uses a methodical process whereby I use a set amount of PVA and each line of the mixture uses the same amount of liquid (10ml) which is applied using a syringe.Plus it's a little bit about the pursuit of the perfect line because they don't always run straight down they merge and bend and curve which to me is annoying but I love it when one runs almost perfectly straight it gives me massive satisfaction :)"

Puddles

I

I've been collecting all the excess paint that has dripped off the end of my work on spare pieces of perspex (the same size as my pieces) and as I have 3 spare pieces and I am doing 9 works I am going to collect 3 sets of colour on each piece of spare perspex.I'm not sure how important they are. Most people seem to like them but I don't know if I will display them for my assessment or final show but I do think they are pretty.
This is green to blue with blue to purple.
I have size 5 feet if that gives any sense of scale.

Syringes

I have broken 23 syringes so far doing this but I ordered 100 so I think I'll have enough to keep going

Colour Mixing

I bought 12 pieces of 1mx1m clear 3mm thick perspex.
These are my first testers of mixing from red to orange mixed with PVA glue and making puddles!
